LA Fitness History
Its history dates back to 1984 when the company was founded by Chin Yi NS Louis Welch, who today operates as Chairman and CEO and President and CEO respectively. They opened their first complex in Los Angeles California. So, by the mid-90s had seen expansive growth due to their approach, involving buying up run-down complexes, remodeling them under their image, and reopening them.
In 1995 they opened a multipurpose complex that still serves as their signature model today. It contains the standard strength and cardio equipment, free weights, and exercise rooms that are prevalent in most gyms. However, they decided to add more variety, adding swimming pools and court sports offering more than standard gyms. Then, that is a key aspect of their success.
This would lead to even more rapid growth, with more complexes opening throughout the country. In its first ten years, LA fitness now had dozens of fitness clubs, and by 2009 there were more than 180 clubs added, all varying in size.
In its first 20 years of operations, LA Fitness has seen a massive increase in size and stature. So, the top-of-the-rate equipment along with the various activities possible at their fitness club has seen them remain popular. Along with its great prices, it shows no signs of slowing down.
